Gravity Data

The purpose of a gravity survey is to identify spatial density changes in the subsurface by measuring the variation in the gravitational field of the earth. Gravity data is used to detect natural or man-made voids, variations in the depth to bedrock and mineral concentration. Whereas ground-based gravity surveys have been successfully applied in mineral exploration, recent developments have added airborne gravity surveys to an explorer’s toolkit.

As with any geophysical dataset, the interpretation of gravity data requires the combined skills of geologists and geophysicists to provide valuable input in an exploration program.
